Training in Lifespan Integration therapy is suitable for experienced psychotherapists, counsellors and psychological professionals. LI requires a sound knowledge of child development and some understanding of the neurobiology of trauma. We ask that delegates have sufficient experience in their practice and have delivered a minimum of 450 supervised therapy hours, be current members of a recognised professional body (e.g. UKCP, BACP, BAP, BPS, HCPC etc.) with a clear ethical framework/complaints procedure, and have professional indemnity insurance.

Core Training

Level 1 (Beginner)

The Level 1 training covers the history and the fundamental principles underlying LI; an overview of various Lifespan Integration protocols; looking at the basics of LI treatment planning; and practising, and reflecting upon, being fully attuned to clients throughout LI sessions in a way that is different to empathic listening. Delegates learn about the impact of using the TimeLine and how to use LI Baseline Protocol, relationship clearing and PTSD protocol through watching videos of Lifespan Integration sessions, live demonstration, and practice sessions where delegates experience the Baseline protocol as therapist and client.

After completing Level 1, therapists are able to start to practice LI with their more stable clients.
However we do encourage you to complete Level 2 as well to really make the most of LI in your practice.

Level 2 (Intermediate)

Before attending the Level 2 Lifespan Integration training
Therapists must have completed Level 1 training (since 2011) and undertaken a minimum of 1 hour of supervision with an approved LI supervisor. Therapists are encouraged to begin using LI with some of their clients immediately after attending the Level 1 Lifespan Integration training.  We recommend that therapists receive at least one session of the LI Baseline protocol from a certified LI therapist before taking the Level 2 training. The Baseline session is not required at this point, but will be required prior to attending the Level 3 LI training.

Description of the Level 2 Lifespan Integration training

During the Level 2 training participants will learn:

  • To use LI Standard protocol and its variations to resolve specific traumas in the Timeline while meeting the previously unmet needs of younger ego states.
  • To use variations of the LI Baseline protocol to increase the client’s capacity to move toward and to stay within their Window of Tolerance (WOT).
  • To use variations of the LI Baseline protocol to engage the self-organizing capacities of the individual client, allowing their self-system to sort through and release no longer needed survival strategies originally developed to defend against early trauma and neglect.
  • More about assessment and treatment planning – How to use the LI protocols learned in Levels 1 and 2 to create treatment plans which will increase each individual client’s integration and body-mind coherence.

Over this two day training there will be three supervised practice sessions where participants practice and experience LI Standard protocol from each of three roles: therapist, client, and observer. In order to receive credit, each participant must remain present during the entire training, and must fully participate in all three practices.

Level 3 (Advanced)

Before attending the Level 3 Lifespan Integration training
To participate on Level 3 you must have completed Level 1 and 2 (since 2011), and had one LI session treating early childhood trauma.  You will also need to have undertaken three supervision sessions with an approved LI consultant.  Before attending the Level 3 LI training, therapists are required to receive one session of the LI Baseline protocol from a certified LI therapist. (Therapists who received a session of Baseline from a certified LI therapist prior to Level 2 have already fulfilled this requirement.)

Content of the Level 3 Lifespan Integration training

During the Level 3 training participants will learn:

How Attachment theory informs LI treatment planning in Stage II of LI therapy.
More about how to use Baseline protocol with the addition of a sorting process to create a shift away from embedded introjects and toward more authentic, healthy behaviors and cognitions.
LI Birth protocol, used to resolve known and unknown birth trauma.
LI Attunement protocol, used to give the client an energetic experience of existing within an attuned caregiving dyad, thereby building a more solid core self and meeting primary attachment needs.
Continued treatment planning, incorporating the LI protocols learned in Levels 1, 2, and 3, in order to increase each client’s integration and coherence.
Over this two day training there will be three supervised practice sessions. During these practicums participants will observe and practice giving and receiving the LI Attunement protocol from each of three roles: therapist, client, and observer. In order to receive credit, each participant must remain present during the entire training, and must fully participate in all three practices.

Upcoming Level 3 Trainings

Level 4

Before attending the Level 4 Lifespan Integration training
Before attending the Level 4 LI training, therapists are required to receive one session of the LI Baseline protocol from a certified LI therapist. (Therapists who received a session of Baseline from a certified LI therapist prior to Level 2 have already fulfilled this requirement.) A further supervision session from any approved LI consultant is also required prior to attending Level 4.

Content of the Level 4 Lifespan Integration training

During the Level 4 training participants will learn:

  • LI Preverbal Attachment Repair, used to fully repair unmet attachment needs during the preverbal years of 0 to 3.
  • More about how to use Baseline protocol with the addition of a sorting process to initiate integration of dissociated items other than introjects, survival strategies and protectors.
  • LI Cell Being Protocol, used to resolve known and unknown in utero trauma and to deepen the connection to the essence of self.
  • LI Script Clearing Protocol, used to sort around an unhealthy relational pattern or false belief in order to fully integrate new healthy information.
  • More LI treatment planning, according to all LI protocols in order to increase each individual client’s integration and coherence, as well as to fully repair attachment.

Over this two-day training there will be three supervised practice sessions. During these practicums participants will observe and practice giving and receiving the LI Preverbal Attachment Repair protocol from each of three roles: therapist, client, and observer. In order to receive credit, each participant must remain present during the entire training, and must fully participate in all three practices.
