Are you exhausted and feeling emotionally numb? Have you learned to manage emotions by staying away from them as much as possible? If you always have to keep busy so that you don’t allow yourself to feel, managing painful thoughts and emotions may seem like a full time job. Perhaps you just hold your breath hoping to get through life without rocking the boat too much or drawing attention to yourself. It’s hard to have your own voice when you aren’t seen or heard.
Do you have problems with relationships? Are your relationships unsafe and scary? Do you find yourself repeating the same patterns? Perhaps you have had so many bad experiences with people that you find it hard to trust. You may even ask yourself what is the point of relationships anyway. When people close to us hurt us, it can leave us with a sense of distrust in others and ourselves. You may have experienced too many losses and disappointments to allow yourself to be vulnerable anymore.
Do you love somebody with an addiction problem? You may have tried just about everything from begging, pleading, and threatening, but not much has changed. You don’t want to give up on your loved one, but you are at your wit’s end while being emotionally, physically and financially exhausted. You ask yourself what it is going to take for your loved one to seek help and you never know what version of your loved one you are going to get today. Things have become very unpredictable and now it’s just one crisis after another.
Welcome. You have taken the first step by noticing that things are not going the way you want and have decided to reach out for help. It may have been a long process to get here.
Please know this – you are not broken. You have done everything that’s supposed to work. You have been trying to figure this out for a long time and maybe while this is happening, you have put your life on hold while you are stuck with the present situation.
Our work is about finding different strategies. It’s about figuring out what matters to you and what you stand up for so you can have more richness, meaning, and vitality in your life. While we cannot change your past, we can work together towards integrating your past experiences, including the not so good ones, so that they can be a source of personal growth and resilience.
